A sharper profile starts with knowing what is softening it.

Double Chin & Jawline Definition Treatment in Carmel, Indiana

Fullness under the chin and a soft jawline are treated at Wise Aesthetics in Carmel, Indiana according to what is causing them. A pocket of fat under the chin is treated with Kybella®, an FDA-approved injectable that breaks down fat cells over a series of 2 to 4 treatments. A jawline that has lost definition is sharpened with filler along the jaw and chin. A wide or heavy lower face from a strong jaw muscle is slimmed with a wrinkle relaxer, and loose skin or neck bands are addressed with tightening treatments or a relaxer. Most clients have more than one of these, and the consultation decides the combination. Individual results vary.

About Double Chin & Jawline Definition

The area between the chin and the neck is defined by four things, and any of them can soften it. A pocket of fat under the chin is partly genetic and often present at any weight; it is the classic double chin. The skin of the jawline and neck loses firmness with age and can drape rather than hold. The chin and jawbone lose volume and support, so there is less structure for the skin to sit over; a naturally short chin has the same effect from the start. And the muscles play a part: an enlarged jaw muscle (the masseter) widens the lower face, and the thin neck muscle (platysma) can form vertical bands that pull the jawline down.

These need different treatments, which is why "double chin treatment" is not one thing. Kybella® dissolves fat and does nothing for loose skin; filler restores structure and does nothing for fat; tightening firms skin; a wrinkle relaxer slims a muscle or softens bands. The consultation sorts out which of the four you have, and most clients have two.

Not all double chin & jawline definition are the same

Four causes, four different treatments; the consultation decides which apply to you.

1

A fat pocket under the chin

Fullness you can pinch beneath the chin, often there regardless of weight. Treated with Kybella®, which breaks down the fat cells so they do not return.

2

Lost chin and jawline structure

A jawline without a clear edge, or a chin that sits back. Treated with filler along the jaw and chin to restore the line, sometimes with Sculptra® for gradual support.

3

A wide or heavy lower face

A square jaw from an enlarged masseter muscle, often with clenching or grinding. Slimmed over a few months with a wrinkle relaxer injected into the muscle.

4

Loose skin and neck bands

Skin that drapes along the jaw, or vertical bands on the neck. Addressed with tightening treatments for skin and a wrinkle relaxer for bands.

Treatment options for double chin & jawline definition

Each treatment targets one cause. The plan combines the ones that apply to you.

For fat under the chin

  • Kybella®: an FDA-approved injectable (deoxycholic acid) that breaks down fat cells beneath the chin; the body clears them over the following weeks and they do not return. Typically 2 to 4 treatments, 4 to 6 weeks apart, with full results at 2 to 3 months. Expect noticeable swelling for days to weeks after each treatment. FDA-approved for the area beneath the chin only.

For jawline and chin definition

  • Dermal fillers: FDA-approved hyaluronic acid filler placed along the jawline and at the chin to restore a clean edge and bring a short chin forward. Immediate, adjustable, and typically lasting 6 to 18 months; firmer fillers in this area tend to last longer.
  • Sculptra®: a gradual collagen biostimulator for broader support along the jaw; use here is off-label and is discussed at consultation.

For a wide lower face or neck bands

  • Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin® or Daxxify® in the masseter: relaxes an enlarged jaw muscle so the lower face slims over 4 to 8 weeks, and often eases clenching. Use in the masseter is off-label; results typically last 3 to 6 months and a few treatments may be needed to establish the change.
  • The same relaxers in the platysma (a "Nefertiti lift"): softens vertical neck bands and the downward pull on the jawline. Off-label; results typically last 3 to 4 months.

For loose skin along the jaw and neck

  • SkinTyte™: infrared tightening with no recovery, over a series of 4 to 6.
  • VirtueRF Microneedling: radiofrequency tightening of the jawline and neck over a series of 3 to 4.
  • HD Radiesse: hyperdilute Radiesse® to improve skin quality and crepiness on the neck; off-label use.
  • PDO Thread Lift: a subtle, immediate lift of the jawline for mild to moderate laxity, lasting 12 to 18 months.

Combinations

Fat and structure often go together: Kybella® under the chin with filler at the chin and jawline produces a cleaner profile than either alone. Muscle and structure also pair: masseter slimming above, jawline filler below. Your provider will sequence them.

Journey members receive special pricing on wrinkle relaxers; Essentials and Journey members receive 10% off other treatments.

An example plan. An example, illustrative only: a client in her thirties with a small fat pocket under the chin and a slightly recessed chin might have two Kybella® treatments six weeks apart, then filler at the chin once the swelling has settled. A client with a square jaw from clenching might have masseter treatment with a wrinkle relaxer, reviewed at eight weeks. These are examples, not a promise of a specific outcome. Individual results vary.

What a consultation covers

Your provider will:

  1. Examine the area in profile and from the front, pinch the fullness under the chin to judge how much is fat and how much is skin, and feel the jaw muscle.
  2. Ask about weight history, clenching or grinding, and any previous treatment in the area.
  3. Tell you which of the four causes apply to you, and in what proportion, because that decides the plan.
  4. Explain recovery, which differs widely: Kybella® swells for days to weeks, filler for a few days, relaxers and tightening hardly at all.
  5. Give you a written plan and its cost before any treatment.

When to expect results

Kybella® results develop over 2 to 3 months after each treatment as the body clears the fat. Filler shows immediately and settles over two weeks. Masseter slimming shows over 4 to 8 weeks; neck-band softening within two weeks. Tightening treatments develop over 2 to 4 months after a series. Individual results vary.

Is treatment right for you?

Candidacy

Most healthy adults bothered by fullness under the chin or a soft jawline are candidates for at least one option, and the consultation decides which. Treatment may not be appropriate, or may need to wait, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active infection in the area, have difficulty swallowing or a history of neck surgery (for Kybella®), have certain neuromuscular conditions (for wrinkle relaxers), take blood-thinning medication, have a history of keloid scarring, or have advanced skin laxity better served by surgery. Each treatment page lists its own considerations, and your provider will review your medical history at consultation. This page is general information and is not medical advice.

When we refer you on

Where loose skin is the main cause and it is advanced, a surgical neck lift is the honest answer, and we will say so. Persistent jaw pain or clenching is also worth discussing with your dentist.

Double Chin & Jawline Definition: questions, answered

Which option is right for me?

It depends on the cause. If you can pinch a pocket of fat under the chin, Kybella®. If the jawline has lost its edge or the chin sits back, filler. If the lower face is wide from the jaw muscle, a wrinkle relaxer in the masseter. If the skin is loose or the neck has bands, tightening or a relaxer. Most clients have two of these, and the consultation sorts them out. Individual results vary.

Is Kybella® a fat-loss shortcut?

No. Kybella® is FDA-approved for the small pocket of fat beneath the chin, and that is what it is for. It is not a weight-loss treatment and is not used for larger areas of the body. The fat cells it breaks down do not return, but new fat can form with weight gain.

Do results come back?

Fat cells cleared by Kybella® do not return, so that result lasts unless you gain weight. Filler, relaxers and tightening are maintained over time: filler every 6 to 18 months, relaxers every 3 to 6 months, tightening as advised. Individual results vary.

How much swelling does Kybella® cause?

More than most injectables. Swelling under the chin is expected and can be marked for several days and noticeable for a few weeks after each treatment, with numbness and firmness that settle over time. Plan treatments around your calendar; your provider will explain what to expect.

Can you slim my jaw without surgery?

Often, yes. If a square or heavy lower face comes from an enlarged jaw muscle, a wrinkle relaxer injected into the masseter slims it over 4 to 8 weeks and often reduces clenching. This use is off-label. If the width is bone rather than muscle, a relaxer will not change it, and your provider will tell you. Individual results vary.

Can filler fix a weak chin?

For many clients, yes. Filler at the chin brings it forward and lengthens it in proportion to the face, which sharpens the jawline and makes the neck look slimmer in profile. Results are immediate and typically last 12 months or more with firmer fillers. Individual results vary.

How much does double chin or jawline treatment cost in Carmel?

Cost depends on which treatments apply and how many are in your plan. The Kybella®, dermal filler and wrinkle relaxer pages each describe what a typical client pays, and your provider will give you a written cost at consultation. Journey members receive special pricing on wrinkle relaxers; Essentials and Journey members receive 10% off other treatments.
