Pattern thinning
Gradual thinning at the crown and part (women) or the temples and crown (men), driven by heredity and hormones. The most common type and the main candidate for PRP support.
Support for the hair you still have.
Hair thinning and early hair loss are treated at Wise Aesthetics in Carmel, Indiana with Plasma Hair Restoration, which uses platelet-rich plasma (PRP) prepared from your own blood and injected into the scalp to support the hair follicles. It is intended for areas that are thinning but still have active follicles, not for areas of complete baldness. A typical plan is a series of 3 to 4 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, then maintenance every 4 to 6 months, and many clients see an improvement in the appearance of fullness and density over a series. Individual results vary.

Everyone sheds hair; the question is whether the follicle grows a new hair as strong as the last. In the most common type of hair loss, hereditary pattern thinning, the follicles gradually miniaturize under the influence of hormones and genetics, producing finer, shorter hairs until some stop producing at all. It affects men and women, usually from the thirties onward, and in women often shows as a widening part rather than a receding hairline.
Other causes are common and some are reversible: shedding two to three months after illness, surgery, childbirth or a stressful period; iron or other nutritional shortfalls; thyroid and hormonal changes; some medications; and tight styles or heat and chemical treatments that damage the hair shaft. Patchy loss with smooth bald spots, or loss with scalp redness, scaling or pain, points to conditions that need a physician's diagnosis.
The treatment we offer works on follicles that are weakened but alive. The earlier thinning is addressed, the more there is to support, which is why we would rather see you when you first notice a change than years later.

The pattern of thinning tells us a lot about the cause and what may help.
Gradual thinning at the crown and part (women) or the temples and crown (men), driven by heredity and hormones. The most common type and the main candidate for PRP support.
Diffuse shedding two to three months after illness, surgery, childbirth, rapid weight change or severe stress. Often recovers on its own; PRP may support regrowth while it does.
Hair that snaps rather than sheds, from heat, chemicals, tight styles or nutrition. The follicle is fine; the hair shaft is damaged. Addressed by changing the cause, with PRP as a possible support.
Smooth bald patches, or loss with redness, scaling or scarring. These need a physician's diagnosis before any cosmetic treatment, and we will refer you.
Wise Aesthetics offers one treatment for hair thinning, and we are direct about who it suits.
Plasma Hair Restoration draws a small amount of your blood, concentrates the platelets in a centrifuge, and injects the platelet-rich plasma into the areas of the scalp that are thinning. The platelets release growth factors that are intended to support the follicles. Appointments take 60 to 90 minutes, a numbing agent is applied to the scalp, and most clients return to normal activities the same day. A typical plan is 3 to 4 treatments spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, then maintenance every 4 to 6 months. Individual results vary.
Best for: early to moderate pattern thinning, a widening part, thinning at the temples or crown, and recovery after a shedding episode. It is not a treatment for areas that have been bald for years, because there are no active follicles left to support.
Your provider may suggest steps that support any plan: checking for nutritional or hormonal causes with your physician, gentler hair practices, and medical options such as topical or oral therapies that a physician can prescribe. We do not prescribe hair-loss medications at Wise Aesthetics, and we will tell you if a physician's evaluation should come first.
Thinning eyebrows are occasionally treated with PRP and are assessed individually.
Your provider will:
Hair grows slowly, so this is a treatment measured in months. Shedding often slows first; many clients notice an improvement in the appearance of density and thickness within a few months of starting the series, with the fuller effect developing over the series and maintenance. Individual results vary.
Adults with early to moderate thinning who still have active follicles in the area are the best candidates. Treatment may not be appropriate, or may need to wait, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a blood or platelet disorder, take blood-thinning medication, have an active scalp infection or skin condition, have a condition causing patchy or scarring hair loss, or have long-standing complete baldness in the area. Patchy loss with smooth bald spots, loss with scalp redness, scaling or pain, or sudden heavy shedding may have a medical cause. We will ask you to see your physician or a dermatologist for diagnosis before any cosmetic treatment.
PRP is intended to support follicles that are still active, and many clients see an improvement in the appearance of fullness and density over a series. It does not create new follicles, so it cannot regrow hair in areas that have been bald for years. Individual results vary.

A numbing agent is applied to the scalp before the injections. Most clients describe pressure and mild discomfort rather than pain, with some tenderness for a day or two afterward.
Minimal. Mild tenderness, redness or swelling at the injection sites usually settles within a day or two. Avoid washing your hair or using styling products for the first 24 hours.
Yes. Pattern thinning in women, which often shows as a widening part, is one of the most common reasons clients come to us for PRP.
