Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis) Treatment in Carmel, Indiana

Excessive sweating is treated at Wise Aesthetics in Carmel, Indiana with injections of a wrinkle relaxer into the sweat glands. Botox® is FDA-approved for severe underarm sweating that topical antiperspirants have not controlled; it blocks the nerve signal that tells the glands to sweat. Results typically begin within 3 to 7 days, reach full effect at about two weeks, and last 4 to 6 months. Treatment of the palms, soles, forehead or scalp is off-label and is discussed at consultation. Individual results vary.

About Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis)

Sweating is how the body cools itself. In hyperhidrosis the glands produce far more sweat than cooling requires, often in one or two areas (underarms, palms, soles, face) and often from the teens or twenties onward. The most common form has no underlying illness; it runs in families and is driven by an overactive nerve signal to the glands. Heat, exercise, caffeine, spicy food and stress make it worse, but they do not cause it, which is why avoiding them rarely solves the problem.

Less often, sweating that begins suddenly in adulthood, affects the whole body, or happens mainly at night is a sign of something else: a medication side effect, a thyroid or hormonal change, or another medical condition. That kind of sweating needs a physician's evaluation before any cosmetic treatment, and we will say so at consultation.

Not all excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) are the same

Where and how you sweat shapes the treatment plan.

1

Underarm sweating

The most common and the most treatable. Botox® is FDA-approved for severe underarm sweating, and a single treatment typically lasts 4 to 6 months.

2

Sweaty palms and soles

Disruptive for work and social life. Treatment is off-label and the palms are more sensitive to inject; your provider will discuss comfort measures and whether it suits you.

3

Facial and scalp sweating

Forehead, hairline and scalp sweating that ruins makeup and hairstyles. Off-label; treated with small, carefully placed doses.

4

Sweating with another cause

Sudden onset, whole-body or night-time sweating. Not a candidate for cosmetic treatment until a physician has looked for the cause.

Treatment options for excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis)

One treatment family addresses excessive sweating: injections of a wrinkle relaxer (a neuromodulator) into the skin over the sweat glands. The product temporarily blocks the nerve signal to the glands in the treated area, and sweating there drops for several months. The rest of the body keeps sweating normally.

Sweat reduction with Botox®

Sweat reduction at Wise Aesthetics uses Botox®, which is FDA-approved for severe underarm sweating that has not responded to topical treatments. The appointment takes 20 to 30 minutes, results begin within 3 to 7 days, and the effect typically lasts 4 to 6 months, after which treatment is repeated. Individual results vary.

Other wrinkle relaxers

Dysport®, Xeomin® and Daxxify® work the same way and may be used at your provider's discretion; their use for sweating is off-label, and your provider will explain the choice. Clients already using one of these for lines often prefer to stay with it.

Areas beyond the underarms

Palms, soles, forehead and scalp can be treated off-label. These areas need more injection points and, for the palms, extra comfort measures. Your provider will tell you whether treatment is appropriate for your case.

What we do not offer

We do not offer microwave-based or surgical treatments for sweating. If your case needs them, we will tell you.

An example plan. An example, illustrative only: a client with underarm sweating that prescription antiperspirant has not controlled might have one Botox® treatment, see the effect over two weeks, and return in about five months when sweating begins to come back. This is an example, not a promise of a specific outcome. Individual results vary.

What a consultation covers

Your provider will:

  1. Ask where you sweat, when it started, what triggers it and what you have already tried, including prescription antiperspirants.
  2. Check for signs that the sweating may have another cause, and refer you to a physician first if so.
  3. Examine the area and map where the sweating is heaviest.
  4. Explain what the treatment can and cannot do, including that it is temporary and that areas other than the underarms are off-label.
  5. Give you a written plan and its cost before any treatment.

When to expect results

Sweating usually begins to drop within 3 to 7 days, with the full effect at about two weeks. The effect typically lasts 4 to 6 months, then wears off gradually. Individual results vary.

Is treatment right for you?

Candidacy

Adults with excessive sweating in a defined area, who have tried antiperspirants without enough relief, are usually candidates. Treatment may not be appropriate, or may need to wait, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain neuromuscular conditions, have an infection in the area, or have sweating that may have an underlying medical cause. Your provider will review your medical history at consultation. This page is general information and is not medical advice.

When we refer you on

Sweating that starts suddenly in adulthood, affects the whole body, or happens mainly at night may have a medical cause. We will ask you to see your physician for evaluation before any cosmetic treatment.

Excessive Sweating (Hyperhidrosis): questions, answered

Is Botox® for sweating the same as Botox® for wrinkles?

Same product, different placement. For wrinkles it relaxes a muscle; for sweating it is placed just under the skin to block the signal to the sweat glands. Botox® is FDA-approved for severe underarm sweating.

How long does sweat reduction last?

Typically 4 to 6 months. Some clients find the second and later treatments last a little longer. Individual results vary.

Will I sweat more somewhere else?

The body does not reroute sweat in a meaningful way. Treated areas sweat less; the rest of the body sweats as it did before.

Does it hurt?

Underarm treatment is a series of small, quick injections that most clients find tolerable; a numbing agent can be applied. Palms and soles are more sensitive and need extra comfort measures, which your provider will explain.

Can you treat my hands, feet or face?

Yes, at your provider's discretion. Treatment of these areas is off-label, meaning the FDA approval covers underarms only. Your provider will discuss whether it is appropriate for you.

Is there downtime?

Most clients return to normal activities the same day. Avoid heat and hard exercise for 24 to 48 hours. Mild tenderness or small bruises at the injection sites can occur and settle within a few days.

How much does sweat reduction cost in Carmel?

Cost depends on the area treated and the amount of product it needs; underarms need more units than a typical wrinkle treatment. The sweat reduction page describes what a typical client pays, and your provider will give you a written cost at consultation. Essentials and Journey members receive 10% off.
